Jose Rizal: The Face of the Philippines

Jose Rizal is a national symbol of the Philippines because he represents the country’s deep love for freedom, knowledge, and justice. Through his intelligence and powerful writing, Rizal revealed the suffering of Filipinos under Spanish colonization. His novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo awakened the minds of the people and inspired them to seek change through peaceful and non-violent means.

Rizal strongly believed that education is the key to progress and true freedom. He proved that serving and defending one’s country does not always require weapons, but can be done through wisdom, courage, and firm principles.
